At some point during my last trip to San Francisco I passed a poster of grainy black and white photo of a streetcar in front of one of the many hills of downtown. I didn’t take notice of it at the time, but as I was walking away from the Ferry Building I passed the end of the California line, and out of the fuzzy recesses of my brain I recognized it as the spot where the poster photo was taken. So without actually recalling the details of the original shot, I attempted to recreate it. The original poster is below (bottom right), as are my attempts (for some reason the thumbnails cut off the images; click to enlarge). The buildings haven’t changed, but the trees are much larger! And it appears as if the end of the tracks has changed somewhat as well.
I will definitely head back to the same spot, early one morning, next time I’m in San Francisco.
