San Francisco 2010 (mostly)

On a cloudy morning in San Francisco I was walking up by the Maritime Park and noticed a lone rower out in the bay. He was soon joined by a skiff, with a photographer shouting out orders. I’m not sure what he was going for, with the cloudy skies and horrible light.

Later in the week I popped up to Golden Gate Park, and managed a couple of decent shots of the city and Golden Gate Bridge. I did not have my tripod, so I used a wobbly post to set the camera on. Under such conditions I always put the camera in burst mode, and hold down the shutter for about 4 shots. The first shot is unusable, the second close, but the third is usually steady. On the fourth I release, so that’s a loss as well. A pretty common and easy technique to avoid camera shake.

While going through my archives, I realized that not only have I not posted many photos from my yearly trips to San Francisco (some are included below), but worse, I’m taking fewer and fewer shots every year. The conference is becoming increasingly busy for me, severely cutting into my ‘fun’ time. Unacceptable!
