This pair of Northern Flickers was hopping around the Audubon Sanctuary on Marblehead Neck this past spring. The one on the left was quite persistent in its courtship, which involved a rapid bobbing up and down followed by raising of the beaks. Fun to watch.
It was cloudy, hence the colors are washed out a bit. Beautiful birds, nonetheless.
Update: According to my bird book, these are both males (the black mustache is the distinguishing mark). Not sure what they were doing!
